My experience
2016 - 2020
job
Senior Associate
PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.
• I worked in a variety of tax teams through the graduate scheme at PwC, primarily in Transfer Pricing for financial services clients, but I also undertook internal rotations to Corporate Tax Compliance, and Pensions / HR consulting, included 6 weeks of on-site consulting at a large pharmaceutical's client.
• My main responsibilities included building financial models; benchmarking inter-territory transactions; researching companies; preparing documentation to support the advice provided; and ensuring that all internal compliance procedures were completed.
• My largest project involved preparing a financial model as part of a Diverted Profits Tax dispute for a FTSE 100 client. This considered the various settlement outcomes of the case against the client's underlying financial and tax position, requiring me to build a strong rapport with the client's tax teams in the UK and Switzerland to request the appropriate data and enhance the model, whilst documenting the methodology so that the final settlement figure could be agreed with HMRC.
• My other significant projects included:
◦ Benchmarking inter-territory transactions for French financial services companies using Bloomberg and Lipper datasets, filtering the data for comparable transactions, and providing supporting documentation of the results to the French teams. These projects often required coordinating with remote teams in Northern Ireland or India.
◦ Evaluating appropriate license fees to be paid to IP-holding companies in line with UK Patent Box legislation.
◦ Calculating the split of profits between onshore and offshore group companies based on the functions carried out and the amount of time spent by key partners in certain jurisdictions.
◦ Organising an event for 12 clients to discuss and exchange experiences of the tax treatment of Captive Insurance in the UK, this involved preparing and compiling the results of advance questionnaires to be shared on the day to promote discussion.
• Outside of my client work, I achieved first time passes in all my ICAEW ACA exams and have completed 82% of my chargeable hours towards the qualification.
