Liar Studio was founded by Liam Arteona and Yasmin Sabr, in a small flat in North London, in 2019.
The two designers strongly believe that ‘Design, no matter what form it takes- product, clothing, printing, building - it is the ending thread of asking an important question’.
Before founding the studio, Arteona graduated from BA Product Design from Central Saint Martins and was studying his Master’s degree (MA Design Products) in Royal College of Art, and Sabr, previously with years of sales management experience, was a student in Central Saint Martins.
The studio’s one quote philosophy, ‘When everyone shouts the truths, we whisper lies.” Represents the two designers’ disbelief in mainstream cultural ideas and further, morals that are irrationally formed. Arteona explains, ‘We see the development of technology every day, almost you can’t keep up with its speed. Yet the morals we have, change barely once in 100 years. Now you ask yourself which side we have to push further, break further, and define further - It is the god damn morals, us and our measurement of boundaries. Sabr adds, ‘It sounds immature yet badass. The truth that we believe that are truths, do they end up being the truth that benefits us? We ask tons of dumb sounding questions in the studio while working, and these reveal how irrationally things are constructed around us.”.In 2019, the duo’s first work Piani, a portable keyboard piano was shortlisted for Rado Star Prize and was exhibited in Design Junction in King’s Cross, London. Their second work Tati, a reconstructed tattoo machine kit, won DNA Paris Award in 2020.
The duo currently works in London studio, and continuously expanding the Liar Studio into an international design consultancy.
