Lead/Senior Frontend Developer
Big Group.
I started my time at Big Group as a frontend developer working on multiple ecommerce and corporate sites for clients including Bristan, Heritage Bathrooms, Littlewoods, MasterCard and Cadbury. From 2012 onwards I was in charge of the frontend team and line-managed from between 2 to 6 developers whom I mentored in their daily tasks as well as assisting/leading on the more technical builds.
In addition to development work, I was responsible for doing all frontend cost-estimates, acted as a link between ourselves and our back-end development and design teams, provided feedback on new UX/designs and consulted with clients and stakeholders on frontend builds. All sites were built to be fully responsive using clean, semantically correct code.
Some of my more notable achievements during this time (by client) include:
Universal Music Production
www.universalproductionmusic.com/en-gb
The Universal Music site is a massive global library of music and sound clips made available to production teams that can search, play and download clips as well as build and collaborate on custom playlists. We rebuilt the site entirely, enhancing it with a complex frontend UI that drew data from SOLR and APIs provided by the developers at Universal Music. The build was done in AngularJS and backed by a Sitecore CMS.
Cakeshop
www.cakeshop.com
This was an ecommerce site similar to Moonpig.com that allows users to build their own personalised cake and cupcake topper designs. Clients can use existing templates or upload their own images and manipulate them and/or add custom text. The end result is saved to a PDF which is sent to Cakeshop to be turned into a topper sheet. I built the frontend of the site using Vue and HTML5 Canvas and the backend was a bespoke Umbraco setup that was built by a remote team in Bulgaria. As much of the complexity of the site lay in the image manipulation I was heavily involved in advising the UX in that area as well.
Hopper
This was an internal platform at Big Group - a kind of ideas procurement and feedback platform whereby staff could be incentivised to come up with new ideas and comment on work processes and new product ideas. This was a modern Angular/ MEAN stack which I setup on an internal company server powered by NGINX. Node was used to provide a REST API, which included endpoints for login and registration with JWT as well as file uploads and sending of CRON regulated html emails.
Breathesimple
www.breathesimple.com/
A site promoting the Breathesimple app, this was a Node site driven by a Contentful CMS. We hosted the site on an Amazon EC2 instance and deployed it with Elastic Beanstalk. Registration emails are sent using Amazon SES.
Big Group
www.biggroup.co.uk
www.biggroup-retail.co.uk
Our company website. This was built with AngularJS and a Sitecore CMS for a backend. We also built a similar site using the same stack for our partner company Big Group Retail in Newbury.
Qinetiq
www.qinetiq.com
This was a rebuild of their previous website. We built the frontend templates that were backed by a Sitecore CMS.
MasterCard
www.paybybankapp.mastercard.co.uk/
www.idservice.com
This was our longest standing client and we have built countless microsites and email campaigns for them over the years, as well as previous versions of the Brit Awards and Priceless London sites. The links provided are just two of the more recent builds we did, responsive microsites backed by a Sitecore CMS.
