2015 - 2019
job
Officer
Uncle Buck PLC.
Head of IT
Having Initially been employed at Uncle Buck as a "Systems Manager", I was quickly asked to recruit more staff including 2
developers, a Testing Co-ordinator, in addition to the Service Desk Technician already in place. At the same time, I was
asked to take on full responsibility for the website, including bringing the outsourced management of this in- house and delivering a completely new version of our ageing site, with full API integration to our loan management system. This was
delivered within 6 months with 2 developers under my lead, following the agile methodology.
In addition to this I implemented a completely new ITIL Service Desk process, and have put in place many new policies,
procedures and processes to aid the business in the delivery of new technology. In February 2016 I was awarded employee of the month, due to the sheer contribution made to the success of the business in a very short time.
In 2018 I was tasked with project managing the move to our new office in Dartford, with a budget of 500k, including
managing all the contractors, facilitating the move and dealing with all technical and design aspects. Delivering this on
time and to budget. During this period, I redesigned the infrastructure and implemented soft phones across the company
with all new hardware. Since then I have grown my team from 6 to 14 people across IT, Testing and Development, and assumed responsibility for the Data Analytics and Reporting team, comprising of a further 4 people.
We migrated all our current hosting to Amazon AWS in January 2019, and we are now embedded in the Amazon
ecosystem. This migration has given the business scope for further growth, and as a result we have a more stable and resilient infrastructure. Our lead and application conversion rates have increased as a direct result of this. I have regular
one to one's with my team to improve their technical and soft skills, and to ensure that their objectives are achievable.
Some of my responsibilities and achievements to date are as follows:
• Provide management of the entire IT, Development, Testing and Analytical team, including performance
management, one to ones, setting and monitoring objectives.
• Ensuring that the agile approach is being followed at all times, essentially acting as scrum master during daily stand
ups, backlog review and refinement and retrospective meetings.
• Overseeing a Database Administrator, ensuring that the MS and MY SQL estate is performing optimally as a result.
• Migration of unreliable infrastructure to a new dependable and resilient one.
• Manage supplier relationships, controlling costs, conducting service reviews and negotiating contracts.
• Review strategic goals and initiatives and presenting ideas and suggestions to the board.
• Development, design, and implementation of new applications and changes to existing systems and applications.
• Ensure the continual functioning of mission critical operations, including BCP / DR policy / practices.
• Maintain security and privacy of the information systems and equipment, reviewing information security and coordinating scans and remediation. Issuing guidance and information to the business.
• Monthly reporting of various statistics to the Chief Operating Officer and other members of the board.
• Management of annual department budget of circa £1.5m.
• Oversee responsibility for the website and systems that generate over 40,000 loan applications per month, and circa £40m turnover annually on a 24/7 365 basis.
