job
assessor
Pentwyn School in October.
1997. I carried out much the same duties as in my previous post at Boxmoor House School. The difference being that Pentwyn provided fifty-two week care.
Whilst at Pentwyn I was instrumental in providing new work patterns, supervision and appraisal for the care staff, introduction of NVQ's and various other training initiatives to ensure compliance with the relevant regulations. To support this I undertook the relevant course to become an NVQ assessor. This followed on from gaining NVQ level 4 in Care and a Registered Manager's Award (Adults). I later completed the ILM Level 4 Management Qualification to ensure that I held the necessary qualifications required by The Care Council for Wales. This enabled me to register as the registered manager.
In addition, I have managed an expanding care team and substantial budget. I oversaw the planning, building and opening of a new unit on the site. I was also the in-house N.V.Q. Assessor working in collaboration with a company called Educ8 to ensure all staff employed attained NVQ Level 3 or, for those in senior positions, an NVQ Level 4. I have also successfully delivered the Technical Certificate part of an NVQ award.
I also worked on an hourly basis as an Assessor for N.V.Q Level 3 &.4 and Registered Manager students at Hereford College. I have assessed students in a number of care settings including children & young people, foster care, learning disabilities, mental health and, the elderly.
I was the Health & Safety Adviser for the Pentwyn site for the five years.
