My experience
2016 - 2018
job
Programme Manager
Zinc Arts.
The Unit Award Scheme is an education scheme designed to support education
in disabled and disadvantaged young people and adults. I was in this role from
April 2016 - June 2018. My main responsibilities were looking after the participants to ensure they were happy and enjoying their time with us at Zinc, to manage a team of 5 deliverers and make sure they were delivering to a high
standard and that their training (along with mine) was up to date and to be able to understand and take care of all the different abilities, how to communicate
and guide them through their educational and personal journey.
Some of the many other activities I had responsibility for at Zinc were:
Residentials: 3 times a year we take a group of Down Syndrome adults away on
a weekend to focus on their soft skills such as communication and team work.
SEN Activities: Alongside providing key education it is important for SEN adults and young people to have some fun. I have organised discos, socials and trips
away.
Stakeholders: Zinc takes care of a group of adults in supported living who
access volunteering and educational activities at Zinc, I am a member of the board for this.
Zinc had asked me to set up a new charity and become Company Secretary, this
involved me reading legal documents and understanding business structures. It
was a challenge as this isn't my natural skill set, but I learnt an awful lot and can now confidently say, I know how to set up a charitable business.
I have been involved with a Zinc a long time - previously I have been self-
employed through Zinc as an artist to come and deliver workshops in Art and Drama.
