job
Technical Support Manager
NetTest Limited.
Due to extremely good sales and high customer satisfaction, the fibre-optics department of Laser Lines Ltd was acquired by a
French supplier, Photonetics, in order to set up Photonetics UK. I was approached and asked to join them as their Technical
Support Manager, to set up and manage a technical support function and a calibration facility.
I accepted this role and set up the support department and calibration facility from scratch. Once done, I was able to provide the customer with a high-quality service based within the UK.
Shortly afterwards, NetTest Ltd acquired Photonetics.
Duties included:
- Managing the day to day running of the technical support department and the calibration facility.
- Managing key accounts with respect to the repair and calibration of equipment.
- Undertaking regular visits to key customers to maximise customer satisfaction.
- In-house repair and calibration of equipment (including fusion splicers and laser sources).
- Installation and repair of equipment on customer site.
- Provision of telephone support to all UK customers.
- Provision of technical support to internal staff.
- Implementation of a company-wide laser safety program (as Laser Safety Officer).
Reason for leaving: NetTest was affected badly by the slump in the telecoms market during this period, and I was given
redundancy along with a large number of other employees.
