2018 - 2019

Associate Consultant - Acoustics, Noise and Vibration
SLR Consulting.
I joined the SLR UK acoustics division with the purpose of establishing an acoustic team in the Bristol office. My role was also to win and build a reputation for building acoustics / detailed design and testing projects, as the team have a heavy bias towards environmental acoustics, particularly in conducting noise impact assessments for planning, particularly in the industrial and waste sectors. Therefore, I worked in several areas including planning submission work in the built environment, industry and infrastructure sectors, construction noise and vibration assessments, building acoustics projects from RIBA Stage 2 to 6 and investigative noise and vibration surveys and assessments. I'm regularly writing fee proposals and identifying new tender opportunities and managing the finances on projects. I also spent a significant amount of my time on business development, setting up meetings with architects, planners and contractors, attending seminars and networking events in the Bristol area, presenting to potential clients by offering CPDs and writing articles explaining the principles of acoustics and vibration.
Job Responsibilities and Achievements:
- Acting as the lead building acoustic consultant in the UK, winning and working on built environment projects from RIBA Stage 2 to Stage 6.
- Working on a range of other built environment, industry, infrastructure and mining & minerals projects at the planning application stage (including EIAs) and monitoring post completion.
- Noise pollution assessments in accordance with BS 4142, DMRB and IEMA guidelines.
- Site suitability and noise mapping assessments to assess the impact of future occupants of a building, in accordance with BS 8233, ProPG and AVO guidelines.
- Construction noise monitoring, assessments and management plans in-line with BS 5228.
- Vibration prediction including assessments of re-radiated noise, human response (BS 6472) and structural damage (BS 7385).
- Noise at work assessments in line with the Control of Noise at Work Regulations.
- Site work include noise and vibration surveys, construction detailing site inspections and pre-completion testing and monitoring.
- Business development including setting up meetings with potential clients, presenting CPDs, attending seminars and networking events.
- Producing new marketing material and organizing the teams LinkedIn presence.
- Developing new report text and templates.
- Identifying fee proposal opportunities from online tender sites for the acoustic team and other disciplines in the business, organizing multi-disciplinary bids.
- Producing macros and processes for the rest of the team to speed up the analysis of survey data, production of noise models and reports, control project financing and produce invoices.
