FM2 Ferrybridge Energy From Waste Power Station Project 90MW
Using a thermal EfW process, FM2 will annually handle around 570,000 tonnes of waste-derived fuel from various sources such as municipal solid waste, commercial and industrial waste and waste wood. The plant will be producing enough energy to power around 170,000 homes. With net energy efficiency of 31%, it will be on a par with its sister plant and will also rank among the top facilities in Europe in this regard.

Eco Park Shepperton Energy from Waste Power Station Project 2.4 MW

These two plants, Gasification and Anaerobic Digestion will process household waste for energy and recycling.
This is done by separating the metals and aggregates for recycling and the rest shredded for fuel for the burners. The food waste will be broken down by micro organisms and the gas produced will be used to generate electricity in a gas engine and the solid compound left shall be used as fertiliser.

My role on site is extremely challenging as the project is still in the construction phase but now moving in to the commissioning phase. This produces several problems with systems and sub- systems that require energisation but still achieving safety from the system to other contractors. This is achieved by following the safety rules, electrical or mechanical isolations for construction to continue, issuing correct safety documentation with all safety keys in LOTO system and safety meeting taken with all contractors.

The Margam green energy plant located in south wales is a 40 MW biomass power station which will be fired by waste wood.

Lead Commissioning Engineer/132KV SAP October 2017- May 2018
• Senior Authorised Person Authorised by the Consortium Director for up to 132KV, duties include switching ,isolations, procedures and LOTO of 132KV, 11KV,415V , 240V, 110V AC/DC 50 VDC Mechanical isolations on utility air, instrument air, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment.
• Produce S.R.C.C (Safety Rules Clearance Certificate) for safe energisation of electrical & mechanical systems.
• Review and amend the technical procedures, RAMS, turn over packages
• Manage the test and commissioning of power plant systems from 690v to 24v this includes 690v Transformers, UPS Transformers and system, Emergency Diesel Generator Saxlund conveyor system, Feed water pumps, ABB & Siemens 130KW motors, ABB compressors, ACC 690v Fans, , DCS I/O checking
• Daily commissioning meeting between construction, commissioning and client (Eco 2) and clients representative (Parsons Brienkenhoff WPS)
• Manage subcontractors for works including 132KV Transformer modifications, Conveyor commissioning, all site services

My role on the site changed with the project changing. I was the commissioning lead for BWV that acted as an intermediate between construction and commissioning for all documentation including mechanical completion documentation of electrical and mechanical packages, commissioning planning of systems that was driven by the planning program. I was asked to become the SAP for the plant, my duties include the LOTO,proving systems are isolated and safe to work on, isolation documentation, permit to work. I had to work with (WPD(Western Power Distribution) for the safe and controlled de enerigisation of the 132KV for essential works on the 132KV transformer, this included cross boundary isolations and documentation. We had to de isolate all systems from 24v to 11KV down stream of the 132KV transformer in a safe manner with switching schedules and RAMS produced and approved by the principle contractor and the clients representative WPS.

Port of Tyne - Renewable Fuels Terminal
This renewable fuel terminal project involves the design and build of import facilities, wood pellet storage and rail loading facilities for biomass to meet the full requirements of Lynemouth Power Station.
