Estimator
unknown.
I was offered the role of as an estimator for R7M in September 2010, I worked under the guidance
of a senior estimator to gain experience in this field. After his retirement I dealt with all of the enquires that were sent to the main Colchester office, this would range from pricing straight forward
marine plant hire enquires to bespoke enquiries that require innovative marine solutions for both
access and construction. I also price marine construction projects for both inland and near shore
works. Last year I won over £3.5m worth of work for the company, and the largest single value job
that I won for R7M was the removal of the sheet pile wing walls at Bradwell power station contract
value £1.7m in 2010. My role at R7M included managing the tender register, forwarding tenders to the relevant departments, chairing the weekly Operations meeting and the by-weekly Work
Winning Meeting.

Contracts Engineer
Sizewell A power station.
With R7M my first project was at Sizewell A power station (contract value £1m). The AEDL
project was to install 2 new pipelines to assist the decommissioning of the power station. All off
shore works were carried out from a jack-up barge, with a 5 man dive team off shore and a 5 man
dive team in shore. I then went on to manage the marine plant to carry out the construction of 'The
Box' for the new Crossrail station at Canary Wharf for Expanded Piling (contract value £1.2m), the
piling equipment used was 2no. bespoke Giken piling machines and 2no. BG32 drilling rigs, with all piling works carried out from floating pontoons. I also carried out some minor sheet piling works for British Water Ways at Beeleigh Lock (Contract value £50k). I managed a project at Walton Pier
(contract value £200k) where R7M were P.C. strengthening the pier with new replacement steel
tube piles.

2005 - 2008
job
Site Manager
Taylor Wimpey.
As site manager, I passed my NVQ level 3 in Construction Site Supervision with the NHBC. This
has enabled me to gain Associate membership with the C.I.O.B. The site team was awarded the
NHBC 'pride in the job' for the units that we produced in 2007 and again in 2008. The site at Cooks Shipyard Wivenhoe (phase 1, 2 & 3 contract value £30m), was a brown field development and had a lot of problems from contaminated soil to fifty six separate '106 agreements' which were
all triggered at key move in dates, as well as '278 works' in the local town to improve the traffic
flow to and from the new development. Due to the project being a bespoke development, the individual needs of each block and plot required special procurements such as structural glass, lifts and cladding etc. The project also involved major civil engineering works such as new sheet pile
sea defences, live deep sewer diversions and construction of a sheet pile wet dock, all buildings
required CFA piling to the foundations. On this job the access to the site was via an unmade road through a small community, to which we had to win the hearts and minds of the local residents.

Site Engineer
J L Knight Roadworks.
As a site engineer for the Knight Group, I operated a one man Topcon robotic total station, but I am
able to use most modern total stations. My responsibilities included the setting out of roads, sewers and house types for the major house developers. During my time, I gained experience in RC
framework up to six stories, sheet piling for sea defences and all aspect of piling works for
foundations. I worked on my own on site dealing with the day-to-day problems that occur on any
major construction projects. I was also involved in the take off and ordering of materials for the projects when needed, dealing with the site team to ensure that the project run to programme.
