From banking to consulting to development, Sairam’s career has been continually shaped by a quest for greater meaning, scale, impact and complexity in his work. His professional pursuits are now beginning to change course as he discerns the power of human enterprise for alleviating poverty as evidenced by his recent projects with women farmers and youth from disadvantaged communities.
Sairam, is currently pursuing is 2nd masters in International development at Kings College London as a Chevening Scholar. In his recent role as a Practice Leader with TechnoServe, he lead programs across rural transformation, skills development and entrepreneurship, impacting thousands of small-holder farmers, women and youth in India. Before joining TechnoServe, Sairam was associated with GIZ (technical cooperation agency of the German government) as a Senior Advisor for a project in which he demonstrated innovative application of a range of financial instruments, structures and measures to help farmer collectives overcome barriers in accessing start-up and growth capital from formal financial institutions in India. This work with farmer collectives at GIZ culminated in the establishment of the maiden, exclusive, multi-pronged incubation and stabilization fund for Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) by a state government in India. Sairam brings an integrated understanding of business organisations, financial institutions and markets that draws on his leadership roles with HSBC, Yes Bank & ICICI Bank. Right before he made his career-defining move to the field of international development, Sairam served as a faculty for courses on commodity markets and finance in premier business schools in Mumbai.
Sairam holds an MBA (Rank 2 holder) from the Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA) where he was awarded the Sir Ratan Tata Scholarship for academic accomplishment. Besides his specific interest in sustainability finance and inclusive business models, Sairam is an avid reader on diverse topics pertaining to the quintessential triad of economy, ecology and society.
