After studying Opera for 14 years I did the thing most sensible music majors do, I got a job in insurance. I worked for companies such as State Farm and Liberty Mutual where I did everything from sales, to underwriting I started speaking up in meetings and throwing idea's to improve efficiency in my call center. Eventually a manager thought my idea's were cool, I guess, and he gave me a chance to try to streamline our commercial claims intake process. I integrated Optical Character Recognition Technology into Liberty Mutual USA's commercial claims department, and completed a full CRM build in Phoenix. This included on-boarding, training and process developing with over 300 customer service reps across 3 time Zones, 5 states and 20 teams. It saved the company nearly $2 million, I got a $5k raise, a T-shirt and more projects. Don't get me wrong, the projects were fun, the raise was OK and I liked problem solving and the ability to make my work day what I wanted but ultimately, I wasn't happy working in Insurance. I wanted to do more tech heavy projects with teams that were open minded and who wanted rapid change. Fast-forward to this January, my husband who is a full stack developer and I launched our own Dev company and took off to travel the world. He builds the software, I manage the products, clients and sub contractors and it's a beautiful thing. I get to look at problems and solve them in creative ways and that's really where I shine.
